Leech therapy is a targeted, medical form of hirudotherapy in which sterile, single-use leeches are used to support local inflammation, blood flow and tissue repair. The saliva contains natural bioactive substances that reduce pain, improve microcirculation and activate the healing process. Only medically cultured, sterile leeches that are used once are used. Treatment is done under hygienic conditions and with clear aftercare instructions. The risk of infection is low when guidelines are followed correctly.
The bite feels like a small sting or mosquito bite. After a few seconds, that feeling diminishes because the leech’s saliva contains mildly sedating substances. Most patients primarily experience a warm or tugging sensation during the session.
